Treasure Hunt

Picked up new toys for the dogs scavenging in today's trash...after a nice wash in the machine, they are hung up to dry, ready to be tossed and tussled with. Luna loves to grab cuddly toys and take them back to her cage, where she hoards them. Claire jumps up high to catch them, although not now the carpet is stashed away, the floorboards are too slippery. Nobu prefers to hang on to things and play tug of war with me, so I'm busy tossing to the girls inbetween tugging with Nobu, helps to have a plentiful stash of ammunition ready :)
Meanwhile yesterday evening the dogs enjoyed some lamb tidbits from our evening meal out at my favorite French restaurant, Le Message. Luna has learned to sit and wait her turn, she's learning how to trust, the sweetie.

Meanwhile Claire and Nobu...

Nobu dug himself a nice cool hole under the dogrun table in the shade of the cherry tree and proceeded to laze, until Claire's furious barking lured him from his bothy.
"There it is, just across the river, succulent, plump, DINNER!"
Worn out by the hullabaloo and the heat, Claire retires under the table for a cool nap, watched over by Nobu...
When a friendly Bernese comes along asking to play, Nobu steps in: "No way, dude, let the lady chill"
Nothing like a personal bodyguard. Life is good.

Vaccination Schedule

Popped by the vet this morning for Claire to get her annual 8 spectrum canine shot, and turns out she has urine crystals forming...the vet suggested I give her more wet home-cooked food. I found this website:
"Food that is heavily processed, sits on the shelves for months or years before it is sold and/or contains ingredients similar to these listed below is a concern.
Brewers Rice, Chicken By-Product Meal, Pork Fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols and citric acid), Corn Gluten Meal, Dried Egg Product, Calcium Sulfate, Lactic Acid, Chicken Liver Flavor,"
Due to the prohibitive expense of Ziwi Peak Venison, I had switched to Taste of the Wild venison and bison mixed with Fish4dogs salmon...and more home cooking...I thought venison was really good, but this site says:
  • Dogs do better on meats of animals that  are medium or small size. Bison, buffalo and beef have never been the main source of food for dogs. These meats have a higher content of inflammatory factors such as arachidonic acid which seem to be increasing the chances of bladder issues and stones.
That makes sense to me, (not much of a meat eater myself) and since this vet is particularly focusing on his research and expertise with kidney stones, plus I do want to nip this problem in the bud, I'm glad I only have two more bags of Taste of the Wild venison and then I'll stop buying it. I bought one of their Pacific Salmon last time, to try it out. Taste of the Wild was recommended by a Daybreak vet breeding English setters in Georgia, USA. To be honest it's not working out as well as I'd hoped, but at the same time, Claire is definitely getting older...I feel the same way too, sometimes, like, just let me chill on the couch now... I've also discovered the supermarket has some leftover cuts of fish cheaply, so I can get that once or twice a week for the doggie soup.

Most Precious

Claire and Luna wearing the headgear for my end of June dance party...what with the rain I've been sticking Swarovski crystals on the flowers to get more sparkle...aren't they beautiful dogs! Now the sun's finally out, perhaps we can head for the dogrun once I've coped with mundane things like taking out trash and washing the clothes...

Chiaro di Luna LIVE

All day long in the heat Luna potters around in the garden, looking for pigeons and whatever, constantly pacing around, popping in for gulps of water and then dashing off out to hunt some more, the biggest, happiest smile on her face and her tail constantly wagging.
